TDM #1 - "Welcome to the Digital World"
I'll come to see you soon
It's best to forget the unnecessary things
There's no more time to be fooling around...
[ Prompt #1 ]
[ "Welcome Tamers" ]
[ "Welcome Tamers" ]
So, you've answered "yes" to the question asking you if you want to save the world. You've gone through the Digital Gate. You've been greeted by Sunflowmon and Nanomon, and told about Tamer Union and the fact that you're to be partnered to a Digimon. What's next?
As it turns out? Ain't no party like a Digimon party because a Digimon party don't stop, and this Digimon party is the biggest and brightest that's been seen in Access City in quite some time! Finally, the Tamer Union is reborn! All these new Tamers and their brand new Digimon are gathered together here in the hopes of bringing peace to the Digital World once more. And what better way to welcome them with a party?
The streets are lined with streamers and festive blinking bits of circuit boards. Multicolored transistors glow softly, lighting the way for revelers who might not yet have a sense of the layout of the town. But hey, if one wishes to step off the beaten path to explore a little more, they're not going to stop you. They all lead to an open area in Access Park, where the main thrust of the party can be found. There’s music being played all night, which might either be new to you, or might be familiar; Tamer Union’s database has samples from across the multiverse, it turns out!
That’s not all, because all of of Access City is now open to new arrivals, from Omekamon’s Arcade to Club Zeal. What’s that? Oh yes, every single establishment in the city will be open all night. It’s a citywide party, after all. Don’t have any BITS? Every single shop is willing to waive their fees… within reason, that is. No one’s going to let you empty out an entire place of business after all.
It’s not all fun and games, though. This is your chance for you and your Digimon partner to meet and get to know one another. Maybe they zero in on you during the party. Maybe the two of you have already found one another. Either way, a night like this may set a precedent for how the two of you you will get on for the future.
[ Prompt #2 ]
[ "Refreshing Refreshments?" ]
[ "Refreshing Refreshments?" ]
No party would be complete without food and drink, and this one's no exception. Access City has gone all out and brought in the widely renowned digital chef, Ebidramon, the proprietor of Ebidramon's Eatery, a restaurant that can be found deep within nearby Bitrot Swamp. Digimon come from far and wide to sample Ebidramon's cuisine, but today, the cuisine has been brought to you!
Ebidramon's palate is said to have ascended beyond human comprehension, and so some of the available foods might not be to everyone's tastes. There's sausage and jellybean pizza and banana and anchovy sliders. There are potato chips and a mysterious "Digital Dip," which the more adventurous among the new arrivals may be able to discover is a delectable blending of marshmallow fluff and caviar. Cookies of all kinds are available as well, ranging from benign chocolate chip to chocolate sandwich cookies with a variety of fun fillings like espresso and buffalo wing. There are asparagus-clam smoothies and a wide selection of the finest sodas and fruit juices available from all across the island. What’s more, some of the strange fruits from Material Jungle have been brought in—the kinds that might leave you turning purple, coughing up polka dots, or making you really energetic all of a sudden.
There's something for everyone, and you can eat as much as you want! This stuff isn't going to keep as leftovers.
[ Prompt #3 ]
[ "They're Throwing What?!" ]
[ "They're Throwing What?!" ]
It's the next day. The party has come and gone, and all that's left of it is stuff to be cleaned up. But hey, that's a job for civil servants right? Though they won't say no to anyone offering to help out.
But before any of that can happen, an incident occurs. Coming up from the city's sewers are the likes of Numemon and Geremon. What are those who usually dwell among the muck and the grime coming out of their hole for? Well, they know there was a party last night, and they're angry over not being invited.
(The whole city was invited. The Numemon and Geremon were simply told not to come if they were going to be a nuisance, and they took that to mean not to come at all.)
Putting aside the inequities of Access City vis a vis the filth dwellers, the Numemon and Geremon are intent on trashing Access Park where the party was held and vandalizing as many places of business as they can. Whether that be by throwing their pink "sludge" everywhere, or by trashing the party equipment and furniture, they're intent on raising a lot of really, really dirty hell.
Those caught up in the chaos must either dodge the so-called "goo" they're flinging or work to stop them. Thankfully, Numemon and Geremon aren't too difficult to deal with, despite their being Adult Levels. Tamer Union didn't intend this to be the first challenge Tamers faced in coming to the Digital World, but it seems fate itself had other ideas.
Mod Notes - Please refer to the Game Info/FAQ for details on how various things in this game work. If something is not covered there, we have the What Are Digimon? page, the Glossary of Terms, the in-progress locations post, and profiles for Digimon up to the Child-Level. If something isn't covered there and you have further questions, or questions about the TDM itself, there will be a space to ask the mods themselves. Also, watch for posts where you can directly interact with some of Tamer Union's key NPCs!

"Words," the warder says quickly, to cut off that line of query; if Taiki wanted to change topics, maybe he wasn't comfortable with combat after all.. which made the choice of change a little awkward. It's still fighting, in a way.
And it's still a bit uncomfortable having conversations when so many people are running around in all their unique clothes and colors and patterns and ... it almost made him sitting here in proper attire look like he's doing it to stand out instead! "I am for lack of better way to put it without more background information, a keeper of particularly dangerous creatures. Pandaemonium is the complex they are kept at, safe and as well cared for as possible." He sways a little in place, like a tree in the wind. "Though right before arriving here, there'd been a fair bit of trouble, and I'd mistaken the call for help here as a request for immediate aid there." And now people might die.
"...And you, aside from fighting? You've obviously dealt with my kind but I've not seen your concept before," not in the least having ENEMIES of his kind, "And ordinarily I'd assume you a familiar set to some task or other, but you speak a fair bit better than most I've encountered." He wasn't the cleverest by far but there's mysteries that are worth unraveling! "...And if I may ask a ... personal opinion." One hand rises to make a slight gesture to all the people going hither and yon. "Does my current manner of dress make me stand out too much?"
His size didn't, not with digimon everywhere. But the rest..
no subject
"No, Ericthonios has a point." Taiki cupped his chin, trying to find the words to explain. "Imagine for a moment that I went in front of a crowd of people and attempted to convince them that you, Gazimon, were a terrible digimon."
"What? Why would you do that?"
"The reason is, for the purposes of the exercise, immaterial, nor is it even really needed. For some people, it is enough that you are different. But if I said things like 'Gazimon is a thief', or 'Gazimon is a liar and you can't trust him', would that not hurt you?"
Gazimon snarled. "But those things ain't true! I mind my own damn business. I don't start shit-"
Taiki held his hands up in a placating gesture. "I do not, for an instant, believe these things are true. But clearly the idea of people saying them hurts you. Not just because you have feelings and those are valid- though that is an important consideration- but also... because actions are informed by belief. If people believe you are a thief, they will act on that. You won't be dealt with fairly, people may throw you out of their shops, or be hyper-attentive to everything you do because they don't trust you. If I were particularly convincing, someone with extreme opinions about how thieves should be treated might decide you deserved to die for it. Words... are, themselves, actions. To pretend otherwise is willful ignorance." Gazimon looked disquieted by the notion, so Taiki relented, bowing to his partner and new acquaintances. "Forgive me. I have a tendency to ramble, sometimes."
Concept. Right. This was going to be very difficult to keep his story straight, and he was privately thankful, at least, that he didn't have the peanut gallery watching him try to hold on to the 'Azem's Familiar' nonsense. "As to your other questions, I'm... somewhat unique." He cleared his throat. "That said, it does make you stand out, but if I may offer an opinion... is that a bad thing? I've never understood the cultural obsession with conformity. Wear what you're comfortable with, and damn what everyone else thinks. Is a meadow of wildflowers less beautiful for every colour on display?"
no subject
"I know some digimon that do that," PicoDevimon notes, sitting down and tucking his wings up, wriggling a bit side to side so he makes a bit of a nest in the hem of the robe. "Getting other digimon to do the hard work for them, or starting nasty rumors to get what they want." Apparently by his tone, the digimon doesn't seem to think it's a bad thing. Or that 'bad things' are exactly what he wants.
There's a little dismissive gesture with one hand, as if to literally wave off the apology. "It's better for understanding now than when it suddenly becomes a problem, I'd think." this is a safer situation to make such explanations!
Surely someone's seen Taiki's concept and approved it, it is SO out of Erichthonios' job description that he doesn't question that either. There's a twitch from the Amaurotine that suggests a wince or a flinch, but the cowl and mask hide so much. "A field of wildflowers is best appreciated at a distance, where even the multitude of colors become a unified view," he mumbles, as if that very same idea had been broached before. "But if it's all the same I've spent my entire life under watchful eyes and I'm not much fond of having them on me if I can avoid it. If I must continue to be judged I'd rather it for actions and not appearances."
no subject
His expression softened. "But try not to let it bother you, Ericthonios. Nature's diversity is the wellspring of her strength."
no subject
This applies only to people of course, not creations, and especially not familiars. Not every familiar counted as a person and even those that almost did ... well, they're still not quite on the same level! They are after all made the way they are, and it's their creator that should be frowned at not the creation.
Leave it to one of Azem's to think nonconformity is the best way to go. He shakes his head slightly. "I can tell you're designed to be appealing to the eye, so perhaps for you it is welcome to be watched. I'm not similarly fond of it." Not when his entire life he was constantly watched, weighed, and found unworthy. Taiki, a familiar made to be looked at at the very least (and likely much more than that if Azem is involved..) might even find being watched something to actively pursue. Erichthonios would rather avoid it.
no subject
"Ridiculed openly? Not often. But treated, however politely, as lesser? Nigh constantly. You, I, Gazimon, Picodevimon. We all of us hear, feel, and think. Different... mayhap even vastly disparate in terms of martial or magical strength. But emotionally? Spiritually? We are equals. Even the Union would agree- they use the word 'partners' to describe us. What partnership can there be between Master and Servant?"
Something in Gazimon's expression shifted, as he listened. Nice words, but he had the vague impression that Taiki was about to start shouting, even though his tone was level and his expression even. "So, uh... you two... from the same place? That's, uh. That's neat. Neato burri-to. All kindsa stuff we got in common. You two from the same place. I got big ears, bunnyboy's got big ears. I'm a virus-type, so's PicoDevimon..."
Taiki's attention snapped to Gazimon, and he almost jumped. "I'm sorry, Virus-type? You're called viruses."
"You, uh... you got a mask. PicoDevimon's got a mask. Funny the way the world works. Is, uh. Is all."
no subject
"Now," the warder begins slowly, working out his words one by one before speaking them, "I don't spend much time in the Halls of Rhetoric. Any, really. But I'm reasonably certain ... that if you're going to start a debate with someone, that you're supposed to stay on subject." He raises one index finger. "Your statement was that my people will ridicule each other over a mussed robe or off-center mask, or a height difference. Appearances. Which I simply don't agree with, as I have never observed it happening for myself, and allowed that perhaps you've seen something different in what social circles you move in."
His hands spread. "And now the subject appears to be altered to whether or not I am PicoDevimon's master, a thought which had never crossed my mind, and going beyond the original appearances to what lies beyond. If you want to start an argument with me, can we, pray, have one subject til that is thoroughly completed? As it is from where I'm seated-" In the middle of the road, at that. "-It seems you've gone looking for a ... I don't think you're looking for a debate, it seems you're seeking a fight, and when you didn't find what you sought you changed the subject so you could get angry about the new one. Which only you have brought up. And now will you become cross with your own partner for having a species designation you don't approve of? 'Virus' clearly means something different to them."
It's not really easy to tell based on his voice alone that this sudden change of topic and Taiki's irritation over his own subject annoys Erichthonios too, he's dealt with enough irritations to mind his manners in public.
"Does this make me an enemy now, because I don't agree with either the subject change or your conclusions?"
Maybe that's how Taiki keeps making 'enemies' of Amaurotines. Like dealing with the Phoinix's touchy temper, but able to verbalize it instead of simply setting everything on fire.
PicoDevimon leans to one side slowly, voice almost a stage whisper to Gazimon. "Is this sort of thing normal for Tamers? I never had one before. Think we should tell them to just fight it out like a normal digimon?"
no subject
Taiki inhaled. There went his mouth again. He held it for several seconds. Exhaled. "Forgive me," he began, and he bowed. "It is a collection of closely-related subjects near and dear to my heart, and I cannot help, sometimes, the rancor I feel." His tone softened, and he did his best to smile. "I don't wish to become your enemy, Ericthonios." He didn't like making enemies, period. Not everyone saw the world the same way.

The little bat visibly deflates when it looks like this isn't going to be the actual end result, flopping over backward with an unhappy "Maaaaan."
Erichthonios is not remarking on this exchange. While he's absolutely certain he could take on most familiars, that didn't mean he could handle all of them and he's reluctant to find out whether or not he'd be brought to heel by someone one third his size.
Besides, there is as far as he's concerned, a more important exchange going on, since it's not likely he's going to just start brawling in the streets without a lot more provocation! "...Forgiven. I'm ... not unfamiliar with touchy subjects." Bring up Lahabrea, watch him stew in countless years of resentment and worse! "But ... if I were to wonder what another might say in this position." Someone far more levelheaded. What WOULD Themis suggest? He wore the white of neutrality, after all..
It takes him a minute to come up with something that DID sound reasonable and neutral and proper. "I think they might suggest it would be best for both of us to remember this star, 'digital' or otherwise, is merely connected to our own, it is not actually Etheirys. I won't get upset everyone's running around bare-faced and oddly dressed, and you won't get upset they call themselves 'viruses'. Fair?"
no subject
"Oh, yeah. Assuming small, dark, and squeaky up there can take some time away from his grand takeover."
"Gazimon."
"What?"
no subject
PicoDevimon is in fact SMALLER than his boot, that little digimon might be a foot tall at best.
"Hey, you two do good at the whole saving the world thing and maybe I'll let you come along for the takeover," PicoDevimon responds generously, partly to Gazimon, partly to Taiki. "I won't be little forever~! For now we got the same goal. Whatever's messing up our world's messing up yours, right? So we gotta fix it, or there's no world to take over! So we'll be working together for a while."
That's true enough. "I really don't think we'll be having much reason to be at cross purposes, all things considered. Even if we wound up on the opposite ends of opinions, PicoDevimon's right, we do have the same destination."
no subject
Taiki stifled a snort. "That said, Ericthonios, I think I'm going to walk around a bit more. Have you seen or met any others from Etheirys, perchance?"
