TDM #1 - "Welcome to the Digital World"

[ "Welcome Tamers" ]

So, you've answered "yes" to the question asking you if you want to save the world. You've gone through the Digital Gate. You've been greeted by Sunflowmon and Nanomon, and told about Tamer Union and the fact that you're to be partnered to a Digimon. What's next?

As it turns out? Ain't no party like a Digimon party because a Digimon party don't stop, and this Digimon party is the biggest and brightest that's been seen in Access City in quite some time! Finally, the Tamer Union is reborn! All these new Tamers and their brand new Digimon are gathered together here in the hopes of bringing peace to the Digital World once more. And what better way to welcome them with a party?

The streets are lined with streamers and festive blinking bits of circuit boards. Multicolored transistors glow softly, lighting the way for revelers who might not yet have a sense of the layout of the town. But hey, if one wishes to step off the beaten path to explore a little more, they're not going to stop you. They all lead to an open area in Access Park, where the main thrust of the party can be found. There’s music being played all night, which might either be new to you, or might be familiar; Tamer Union’s database has samples from across the multiverse, it turns out!

That’s not all, because all of of Access City is now open to new arrivals, from Omekamon’s Arcade to Club Zeal. What’s that? Oh yes, every single establishment in the city will be open all night. It’s a citywide party, after all. Don’t have any BITS? Every single shop is willing to waive their fees… within reason, that is. No one’s going to let you empty out an entire place of business after all.

It’s not all fun and games, though. This is your chance for you and your Digimon partner to meet and get to know one another. Maybe they zero in on you during the party. Maybe the two of you have already found one another. Either way, a night like this may set a precedent for how the two of you you will get on for the future.

[ "Refreshing Refreshments?" ]

No party would be complete without food and drink, and this one's no exception. Access City has gone all out and brought in the widely renowned digital chef, Ebidramon, the proprietor of Ebidramon's Eatery, a restaurant that can be found deep within nearby Bitrot Swamp. Digimon come from far and wide to sample Ebidramon's cuisine, but today, the cuisine has been brought to you!

Ebidramon's palate is said to have ascended beyond human comprehension, and so some of the available foods might not be to everyone's tastes. There's sausage and jellybean pizza and banana and anchovy sliders. There are potato chips and a mysterious "Digital Dip," which the more adventurous among the new arrivals may be able to discover is a delectable blending of marshmallow fluff and caviar. Cookies of all kinds are available as well, ranging from benign chocolate chip to chocolate sandwich cookies with a variety of fun fillings like espresso and buffalo wing. There are asparagus-clam smoothies and a wide selection of the finest sodas and fruit juices available from all across the island. What’s more, some of the strange fruits from Material Jungle have been brought in—the kinds that might leave you turning purple, coughing up polka dots, or making you really energetic all of a sudden.

There's something for everyone, and you can eat as much as you want! This stuff isn't going to keep as leftovers.

[ "They're Throwing What?!" ]

It's the next day. The party has come and gone, and all that's left of it is stuff to be cleaned up. But hey, that's a job for civil servants right? Though they won't say no to anyone offering to help out.

But before any of that can happen, an incident occurs. Coming up from the city's sewers are the likes of Numemon and Geremon. What are those who usually dwell among the muck and the grime coming out of their hole for? Well, they know there was a party last night, and they're angry over not being invited.

(The whole city was invited. The Numemon and Geremon were simply told not to come if they were going to be a nuisance, and they took that to mean not to come at all.)

Putting aside the inequities of Access City vis a vis the filth dwellers, the Numemon and Geremon are intent on trashing Access Park where the party was held and vandalizing as many places of business as they can. Whether that be by throwing their pink "sludge" everywhere, or by trashing the party equipment and furniture, they're intent on raising a lot of really, really dirty hell.

Those caught up in the chaos must either dodge the so-called "goo" they're flinging or work to stop them. Thankfully, Numemon and Geremon aren't too difficult to deal with, despite their being Adult Levels. Tamer Union didn't intend this to be the first challenge Tamers faced in coming to the Digital World, but it seems fate itself had other ideas.

Botamon bounces. "I'm Botamon!" He sounds very proud of this fact. He is who he is!

"I'm Nara'a. I'm a little surprised that there's so many hyur around." His tail twitches - it's not unnerving, just unusual.

[ourtomorrow]

"Hyur?"

Wormmon tries out the unfamiliar word. It's made of a few sounds he can't make without squeaking or slurring, so he mangles it. Cutely. Nasally.

He's doing his best.

[aetherweaver]

“Or… Hume? Oh… your world might have a different word for it.” His ears flick back for a moment as he tries to figure out how to explain it.

“Your race. Shorter than Elezen, with small rounded ears and no fur or scales or tails.”

[ourtomorrow]

"Humans," Ken supplies, deducing that the listed body parts are common among groups of people in this other world. Wormmon's eyes go round, and his mandibles part in a soft "ohhhhh" sound. Ken-chan figured it out! He figured it out from so little!

"Ken-chan, you're so smart!"

"Humans - hyur - are common in my home world," Ken then provides for the other half of this conversation. "Until today, I'd only met humans with partner Digimon."

[aetherweaver]

"Oh... that's strange. It'd be so boring if it was just hyur around." Botamon bounces and looks up at Nara'a with big eyes.

"There's lots of different kinds of Digimon! So it won't be so strange to have someone who's not a human with a partner!"

He realizes his partner's just trying to make him feel better, and the miqo'te smiles. "Thanks, Botamon. I'm sure it'll be fine. I'll just... have to get used to seeing so many hyur." Hm. Maybe he should explain.

"I'm a miqo'te - of the Keepers of the Moon clans. There's the Seekers of the Suns clans, too." And those seem more common where he's been - but no matter. He's gotten used to that, too.

[ourtomorrow]

"Those sound important," says Wormmon, who is now wondering whether he and Ken-chan have met a famous person. Famous people are just people too, but it would still be kind of neat. Ken-chan used to be a famous person. Maybe this person could be an understanding friend. "What do you do?"

[aetherweaver]

“Oh - oh, no. It’s just a difference in when we’re most active and which of the Twelve we worship. Sun Seekers worship Azeyma the Warden, goddess of the sun. Moon Keepers worship Menphina the Lover, goddess of the moon. We have a few physical differences too… but it’s harder for non-miqo’te to notice a lot of the time.”

Botamon bounces and nudges his partner. … Ah, fine. “But I’m the Warrior of Light - or that’s what people call me. I’m a… I’ve saved the world a number of times - but it wasn’t just me doing it. There were a lot of people who helped…”

[ourtomorrow]

"Ooh. You're like Ken-chan, then!"

Ken laughs nervously. "Wormmon..."

"You have saved the world! A bunch! By making me stronger!"

"We've both had busy lives," Ken concludes as modestly as he can.

[aetherweaver]

“It sounds like it.” He chuckles lightly, offering the pair a smile. “It feels weird to say, but… at least it’s not just me?”

Botamon looks up at him curiously and he shakes his head. “It’s… hard when everything comes down to just you, pretty much.”

[ourtomorrow]

"It is," Ken agrees, solemn. But he smiles again. "But so many people answered the call to help this place. You won't be alone."

"Right! Botamon is here!"

....That's....not what Ken had meant...but it's also not wrong, so he pats his worm on the head. "True."

[aetherweaver]

"Yeah..." He leans in and nuzzles Botamon carefully, the baby digimon letting out a giggle.

"That tickles! But... but he's right! I'm here because of you, and there's a lot of people here! I don't think it'll matter what you are - digimon all look different, after all!"

"You've all got some good points there." He chuckles and bounces Botamon in his grip a little bit, listening to him giggle some more.

[ourtomorrow]

"Let's help this world together," Ken proposes. Wormmon beams. Him too! He is a part of "together"!

[aetherweaver]

"Of course!" He gives Ken a thumbs-up and nods. "I've got your back!"

[ourtomorrow]

"Us too!" Wormmon agrees, waving a nub since he can't do a thumbs up. Then he crawls onto Ken's back and waves over his partner's shoulder. "See?"

Wormmon is not the sharpest bulb in the crayon box.

[aetherweaver]

"I -" He laughs a little bit, shaking his head. "When someone says 'I've got your back' it means 'you can rely on me'."

So cute...

[ourtomorrow]

"Huh." Wormmon ponders this, and blushes. He messed up then, huh....

....but it also means something good! "Thank you. We're friends now, huh?"

And he tries to giggle, but it gets stuck somewhere and comes out a weird nasal snorty sound. "Nyahgheee."

[aetherweaver]

"Yeah, we're friends."

He reaches out to offer a finger for Wormmon to shake. "You're a good partner, I can tell."

[ourtomorrow]

"I couldn't ask for better," Ken affirms. Wormmon, shaking the proferred finger, chuckles and shuffles in place. "You're both wonderful partners, too."

[aetherweaver]

"Aw..." He smiles and pulls out one of his other soul crystals, closing his eyes and using it to turn back into his red mage outfit. "Here, it'll be more comfortable for you than trying to snuggle against armor..."

[ourtomorrow]

"Thank you!"

Hop. Now there is a bug attached to you. But that's okay:

he's a cuddle bug.

[aetherweaver]

Well, he meant for Botamon, but he's not opposed. He catches Wormmon easily, leaning against him to rub his cheek against the bug.

He's a lot friendlier than the other giant bugs he knows of.

[ourtomorrow]

Wormmon is pretty much the ideal giant bug, it's true. He'll make room for Botamon should the blob want to join in on this. You're a friend, too!

Ken just smiles and stands there, happy to have made a friend. He's not the most exciting or dynamic person, but he's made his peace with that.

[aetherweaver]

Botamon leans against Wormmon too, nuzzling him and trying to imitate his tamer. It must be normal if he's doing it, right?

"Ah... thank you, Ken. For all of this. You're very patient. This is going to take a bit of getting used to..."

[ourtomorrow]

"Please don't worry about it," Ken reassures the new Digimon-Tamer pair. "We'll be adjusting to the new world, but if there's any way we can help, don't hesitate."

"Eat lots," Wormmon advises Botamon, now in Senpai Mode. "Sleep lots. And spend looooots of time with your partner. That's how to evolve!"

[aetherweaver]

"I'm gonna get big and strong and protect Nara'a!" He squeaks, wobbling a little with emotion. "And then maybe I can be like you!"

"No need to grow up so fast..." He laughs a bit and nods to Ken. "That goes for the both of you. There's plenty of fun to be had when you're younger."

At least if you have support, and it seems like this place has a built in system for it with the Digimon partners.
